The picture books on this website are selected for their excellence in design and text and feature work by extraordinary illustrators from around the world.

Here, you’ll find picture books that explore life’s big feelings and challenges — grief and healing, stammering and finding your voice, kindness and connection, immigration and belonging, self-esteem and growing up, attachment, empathy, and emotional resilience.

I think of these as life lessons for children — gentle stories that help them understand themselves and the world around them. Many of the books featured here speak to young children – but some have a quiet magic that touch older readers too, especially those navigating big feelings or complex experiences.

Picture books also include silent books

A silent book (also known as a wordless picture book) is a book that tells its story entirely through images — with no written text at all. Because they rely on images, silent books can be “read” by people of any language, age, or reading ability — including children not yet reading, those with literacy difficulties, or multilingual readers. They encourage visual literacy and foster imagination and empathy.

Remember also Rhyming books serve a useful purpose — they aid memory by helping children remember words, capturing their attention through sound patterns. They help language skills by strengthening vocabulary, while also being a precursor in learning how to spell.
